Question by jash: Is this appropriate for a youth pastor?
Ok, so there is a local early 30s youth pastor in my area that is very popular with high school/college aged kids. He is a vibrant preacher and really tries to connect with kids. I am not a regular church going guy, but I have gone to some of his sermons and even seen his church broadcast on local TV on some occasions.
The strange thing I have noticed about him is that he is one of the most image-conscious people I have ever seen. He wears expensive designer jeans, has bleached hair, a perma-tan, and generally wears what appears to be very expensive clothes and jewelery. I can’t really make any assumptions as to his financial situation, but being so “metrosexual” seems very odd for a pastor.
I checked out his facebook “fan” page just yesterday and he posted a new close up pic of himself. To me, it looked very obvious that he had some kind of collagen or lip-plumping injections in his lips. They looked like Megan Fox’s. I did a comparison from his older pics and it was so evident that something had changed. It’d be more funny if it weren’t so odd.
I don’t know, am I making too big a deal about this? Anyone else think it is a bit weird for a youth pastor to care so much about his looks?

I don’t understand why this matters.

Since 2005 we have provided graphics and layouts and profile tweaks for myspace. We no longer support Myspace profiles. Myspace is dead. We have transitioned... So now, you can pimp your Facebook.
Yeah that’s very plastic, if it’s true
Gotta keep the hip image yo.
That is very weird.
I don’t recall Jesus saying it was important to have a tan, jewelry and plump lips to spread the Gospel.
I would love to see this guy’s facebook page for a good chuckle.
I wouldn’t focus so much on what he looks like. Focus more on what he is saying.
But chances are he’s kinda nutty. Sounds egotistical, and probably likes to make references to his personal life a lot when giving a sermon. I hate that so much, but it can be a good tool.
My advice to you is to evaluate the man on what he says and does. Not according to how he looks.
Jesus says you shall know them by their fruit.
Please tell me he is doing good things.
“By their fruit you will recognize them…”
Matthew 7:16
Do you him genuinely loving others? Are people getting saved? We all have our own “strange things” – sounds like his are just very apparent. Nobody is perfect. Just make sure he is preaching truth.
Dear, Religion is a business and looks sell.
I know that it can be a major distraction, but just keep your mind on the things that he is saying… Is he preaching the word of God truthfully? If so, try to get past the fact that he keeps up his image for the public and concentrate on the fruits that you see in his pastoral knowledge. We are not to be judgmental of people, so I hope that this is something you will be able to look past as long as he isn’t speaking heresy, because then, it would definitely be a concern to address!
I hope this helps…
While man looks at the outward appearance, God looks at the heart. I don’t think you should be too worried about it. It’s really between Him and God.
Further, one thing about being on TV is that you need to look good. Just watch any Live TV show or CNN or BBC,… you’d notice all the people who host them dress nicely. If you look tattered, people would find it a bit hard to watch you. There is this saying, “Dress the way you want to be addressed”
Don’t know much about this guy, but it sounds like EGO not GOD
