Question by Dan: Are the new super long Facebook fan pages info-stealing viruses? How can I fix it?!?
So apparently the new facebook page craze are ones with ridiculously long titles. I joined one that was ironically “Don’t join long fan pages you f***ing retards…”, that statement repeated like 30 times so yes, it was a very long title. I “Liked” that stupid thing, the next day a friend on FB says these long pages are viruses that give some remote person access to your FB information, like what you post. So bye bye privacy. However, nothing seemed different with my profile. I couldn’t find this fake page though, which wasn’t a fan page in the first place, it was a link to some remote webpage. What I did notice was that on my profile it said I “liked” “I survived the facebook massacre of 21/05/2010″. So obviously something was up because I never “liked” that page, which also was a link to some remote BS. What should/can I do? Change my password? Or is this a lost cause and I should just deactivate my FB and start a new account?

Since 2005 we have provided graphics and layouts and profile tweaks for myspace. We no longer support Myspace profiles. Myspace is dead. We have transitioned... So now, you can pimp your Facebook.
The other day, I liked a few very long fan pages too. So as I was looking at my profile today, removing posts like “_______ ____ commented on _____ _____’s photo…” I noticed that it said I liked a group that I absolutely DIDN’T like. So I click to see where the fan page leads me too, and I notice it brings me to this link. It said, “Confused? You didn’t like this page, did you?” at the top of the page in bold letters. And it explained to me that lots of these groups are changing their names into something else.
So, I went to Account > Edit Friends > Pages, and deleted all my pages that I liked.
I HOPE they’re not viruses.
Good on you for being so suspicious! Now alot of people thought this and the answer is NO! These pages are not info-stealing viruses. In fact, they are the creations of Pyrohawk & Spambook. These two websites tag themselves as making you happy and others annoyed. Hence the long page names. All these pages are, is just really long text that you can get a giggle out of, while others get annoyed by. They dont actually harm you or your computer, they are not viral, and no they cannot steal your information. When liked, your information is not taken, nor is it stored anywhere. You never actually “liked” the page either. It is merely a facebook hack that looks likeable but it isnt. It is just a “mirror page” that takes you to a different website, generally http://www.pyrohawk.com/facebook/index.php where Pyrohawk and Spambook show you their variety of similar long titled pages. So dont worry about any secret stealing of information. These pages are just like, “illusions” that try to make you laugh! Thats pretty much it!
I’m not sure about others – but this one is not stealing (I checked source code):
